Narrative During Books Three Comrades

The year is 1928. On the outskirts of a large German city, three young men are earning a thin and precarious living. Fully armed young storm troopers swagger in the streets. Restlessness, poverty, and violence are everywhere. For these three, friendship is the only refuge from the chaos around them. Then the youngest of them falls in love, and brings into the group a young woman who will become a comrade as well, as they are all tested in ways they can never have imagined. . . .

Written with the same overwhelming simplicity and directness that made All Quiet on the Western Front a classic, Three Comrades portrays the greatness of the human spirit, manifested through characters who must find the inner resources to live in a world they did not make, but must endure.

Write Up Epithetical Books Three Comrades
I dont believe Ive ever read a novel in which so much alcohol is consumed!Forgive me that inane opening line the problem is that my overall reaction is difficult to put into words and I was attempting to be light and temporarily put off writing of how devastated I was upon finishing this book. Still, it is not untrue, there is a lot of drinking and times I could have used a stiff one myself. The depiction of poverty, unemployment, despair and overall disillusionment in Germany following WWI can

Erich Maria Remarque is best known for his classic masterpiece All Quiet on the Western Front. Arch of Triumph may not be equal to that but it is very good, a beautifully written novel that stands on it's own merit and one that I enjoyed reading from start to finish. The setting is 1938 Paris, nervous about the unrest in Europe prior to the start of World War II, and filled with expatriates and refugees of many nationalities. Ravic is an accomplished German surgeon, and having fled Nazi Germany,

What a beautiful love story! Described in the inter-war with, in the background, crisis and rising unemployment. Nazism announced back cover watermark appears only towards the end of the book.It is well written, it's fun and it holds up the whole time, and that's saying something since the three friends, comrades, are crazy about cars and keep a garage.A great discovery.

Reading this novel was devastating, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. It's now one of my treasured books.

My thoughts a bit into the book:THIS is fantastic! What lines! Did you know that Remarque died in 1970? He didn't JUST write about WW1. Here the year is 1938. The Spanish Civil War, the build-up to WW2 and refugees in Paris are all part of this book. Interesting and exciting and marvelously written. And you want to know why the main character is as he is. You simply MUST understand. Slowly it unfolds. Good stuff. Me, I am enjoying myself as I read this. And on completion?Everything that I loved

Ive tried to write review for Arch of Triumph and Ive failed. So instead of it some impressions. Its a love story and grief story; its Paris of expatriates, cheap brothels and shabby cafés; its hotel International, mecca for fugitives from every corner of Europe, with its rooms embellished with portraits of fascists or their democratic counterparts, depends on whom current exiles are; its sea of calvados, nocturnal wanderings, ambience of nostalgia and decadency and harbinger of impending

Paris is always popular. The prose in this translation is often poetic. WWII is looming and almost everyone knows it. A great deal of alcohol is consumed.
