When Callum and his friends find Iona on Callum's farm they try to chase her back into the village. But Iona runs from them up into the hills. It is late and dark and snow lies in the mountain gullies. Worried for Iona's safety, Callum follows to find her shivering with cold but refusing to leave. She is guarding a secret hidden in the forest above the dark waters of the loch. So they make a deal. Iona shares the secret and in return Callum allows her back onto the farm. They form a deep bond of friendship and make a promise to keep their secret safe. It is a promise that will change Callum's world forever . . .
She turned her head, and fixed me with her brilliant yellow eyes. She looked right into me. And suddenly I knew then, in that one moment, I was as much part of her world as she was of mine.
Soar above the clouds in this enthralling tale of friendship, loyalty, and hope.

Callum's friends don't like Iona - but she's discovered the nest of an endangered osprey on his family's farm, and they share this secret together like undercover friends. At school, Callum lets his friends tease her, but after school, they meet up to observe the osprey's aerie and root for the eggs inside. This is just the beginning of a story about all kinds of friendships that spans continents and made me cry a bajillion tears. One of the things I loved is how this book subtly asks a lot ofThis book was an interesting read highlighting many cross-curricular links that can be used in a variety of Primary School subjects. Integrating lots of diverse themes Sky Hawk can be utilised in many subjects such as, English lessons. This is because Sky Hawk generates a vast range of creative writing tasks, examples being, getting the children to imagine a different animal to an Osprey and visualise it making a journey (this could be a pet, or another wild animal). They have to describe its

She tells him that his farm contains secrets and shows him one when they climb up to the top of the local mountain and she shows him that osprey are living on his land. He and Iona keep the secret until the female osprey needs help - and then their world starts to expand as they add Hamish, the local nature warden, to their circle of trust. Gradually, Callum's world gets
What really enjoyed about this novel was that it was such an emotional rollercoaster that the book takes the reader on. Loss is a key theme that really attaches the reader to the character of Callum, however, love does end up coming through with courage. Some times the book was harder to follow due to some events being largely complicated that could be simplified. Personally I would use this book when teaching because it has so many cross-curricular opportunities. As well as this, the book could
I loved this book. Simple as that. It started quite slowly, with kids poaching fish in a Scottish burn, lambs being fed on a farm, and friends bickering over the things which seem important when youre ten. And because I was brought up somewhere a bit similar, I stuck with it for a few chapters. But then suddenly the gentle writing got under my skin, the story heated up, and I was gripped. I had started reading it without preconceptions, without even reading the blurb (a great way to read any
Sky Hawk is set in a small farming village in Scotland. It starts with a meeting between three boys who seem, at first, to be quite irritating and childish, especially Rob who is a bit of a show-off, and Iona, a girl who has returned to the village to live with her grandfather who is almost an outcast in the village.Callum and Iona form a deep bond of friendship. Callum has the strength of mind to stand up to his friend to defend Iona and she then shares an amazing secret with him about a wild
