Me costó trabajo entrarle a este libro pero, una vez que le agarré el hilo, me sumergí por completo y me dejé llevar. Arenas se apega a los momentos más trascendentales de la vida de Fray Servando Teresa de Mier pero los describe con un toque de surrealismo que resultan encantadores y, como bien se titula el libro, alucinantes. This is an imagined biography of the real Dominican Friar Servando Teresa de Mier (1765 1827); written in 1966 by the author of The Doorman. It starts very much in the magical realism mode but does rather tend to lose steam to more standard Latin America novel near the end. This is like many of Mario Llosas (e.g. Feast of the Goat, The War of the End of the World, Way to Paradise) or Souzas (e.g. Mad Maria) work in that it is a brilliant narrative where you begin to wonder about the true facts

First novel for one of my graduate courses that I actually enjoyed!
