Francis of Assisi a Novel = Saint Francis, Nikos Kazantzakis Francis of Assisi, whose renunciation of his young man’s life of leisure and founding of a religious order dedicated to living in poverty and sharing the Gospels with all living things profoundly influence the ways in which Christians the world over worship and give service to their god even today. Recounted in Nikos Kazantzakis’s striking prose through the eyes of the saint’s brother, Leo, the life of Saint Francis shines in these pages as a heroic example of inspirational leadership and boundless love for God and all His creatures.

Assessment Regarding Books Saint Francis
For me this was a slog. Must be honest. But still I come away with an appreciation for Saint Francis' enthusiasm, devotion, faith, energy.I found myself disturbed by his renunciation of pleasure, his lack of care for his body. "This food is too delicious!" he would say - "Let me put some ash from the fire in it." I guess he never wanted to be too comfortable. Some quotes:Speak freely, Brother Masseo. But I think I did something foolish, mad. It will make you angry. Madness, Brother Masseo, is the

Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) was born in Crete and lived in Greece most of his life. He was the author of poetry, plays, articles and novels, including The Last Temptation of Christ, Zorba the Greek The Last Temptation of Christ, The Odyssey: A Modern Sequel, and The Greek Passion. The author gives us a very human and realistic portrait (as in The Last Temptation of Christ) as a holy man who sincerely struggled with his calling to serve God in the midst of much conflict from family and

Not as magical as The Last Temptation of Christ, and I thought Francis' death dragged on too long.Still my favorite saint.

A very special book. Have read it two times.

"There is no harsher means of punishment, Brother Leo, than to answer malice with kindness" It's been some time, since I started to remember years based on the last book read. For 2019 it's #GodsPauper by Zakis. Perhaps the toughest encounter I had with a book. It took more than an year. Each page weighed so much. Beyond the label of spirituality, must say that the book is finesse critique of the life and times* of Saint Francis (*time that is still reluctant to tick a change). Sharp and subtle,

A fictionalized account of the saint's life, as told by his assistant Brother Leo. A powerful, thought-provoking work. Kazantzakis ponders: How can there be two ways to Paradise, one of effort but also one of ease? How can there be Paradise as long as anyone is not saved (is in Hell)? Mostly, like Last Temptation, it was about struggle, but the struggle to shun the earthly in everything although it's noted that the urge for heaven can be a temptation as well (pride). I wondered how much is fact
