Today it reads like a parody of a tv soap. If you read it as a comedy, you won't stop laughing. I didn't like this play as much as the other works of Williams I've read so far. The characters fell flat and the plot didn't have the tension I've come to expect from his writing. I also didn't enjoy the dialogue and felt the first act dragged on for too long.
Sad, and Tennessee Williams is a great writer, but I was honestly bored by the premise and plot of this play. None of the characters were very compelling to me, and after what Chance did to Heavily, I really couldn't feel bad for him anymore. What a disappointment.
